This 5 7/8" long, approximately .9 T. oz., teaspoon is an example from Wallace's early 20th century series that features zodiac signs and flowers from each of the twelve months of the year.

The month represented is "December" as appears on the lower portion of the handle, and the corresponding sign and flower are "Capricorn(us)" and "Holly."

In mint condition, and never monogrammed, this appears to have been little, if ever, used as an implement...

Produced by the Chicago silver firm of Wendell Manufacturing Company, Ariel is a highly expressive pattern.

Sculptural in manner, the central design element is a cherubic figure set against a dense, decorative background.

It is strongly reminiscent of Dominick & Haff's Labors of Cupid, which it predates by five years, introduced in 1895 vs. 1900.
