This 2 1/8" by 1 1/2" by 7/16" matchbox or vesta was made by Gorham and is amply marked. It is stamped with a lion, anchor, G, Sterling, the model number 760, the date symbol for 1889, and the word Copyrighted. This item appears in the 1889 and 1890 Gorham catalogs (see image 2). At approximately 1.0 T. oz., this is relatively heavy, in contrast to the many examples of this form which are light to flimsy.
