Numbered sequentially H106, H107, and H108, this knife, fork, and spoon respectively appear in Gorham's 1902 catalog along with a set of children's holloware (see accompanying image 4). They are charming items, having plain handles with notched ends and cast and applied children's faces. These are fashioned in a Kate Greenaway style and portray a girl on the spoon and knife, and a boy on the fork...

Dating from 1890, Gorham's Chippendale is something of a stylized interpretation of this traditional motif. This offering is a matched youth set including a 5 15/16" long fork and a 7 1/4" knife. Both pieces are solid sterling, and weigh 2.2 T. oz. combined. Each item is also inscribed "Seth" in script on the handle. The condition is very good, with the items retaining clear pattern detail and showing no damage...

Measuring 6 1/4" long and weighing .8 T. oz., this coin silver youth fork is marked "D. Valentine" for the Syracuse, NY, retailer. A known mid 19th century leafy "Wreath" or "Garland" pattern by Joseph Seymour, also of Syracuse, it is stamped on the reverse with an "S" in a shield. This is no doubt an undocumented (at least in any of the major references) Seymour manufacturer's mark. There is a feathered script "CCH" monogram on the front. The condition is very good...

In the 1925 Wakefield pattern by Reed & Barton, this four tine baby fork measures 4 1/4" long and weighs a robust .7 T. oz. The design is a tipt end with a feathered border, and in this instance is engraved "John Jr." in block lettering. It is in immaculate condition, having apparently served more as a show piece than a utilitarian item. Marks are the Reed & Barton emblem and the word Sterling.
