This 6 1/8" long, relatively light weight, sterling silver souvenir spoon is unusual on at least two counts. First, it was made by "Wm. Rogers Mfg. Co." (with a star emblem and the word Sterling) of Hartford, Connecticut. This was one of myriad companies that carried the Rogers name. It was known largely for silver-plate, but this example is sterling. Second, the subject is the "Memorial Arch" in Bushnell Park in Hartford, Connecticut. Given this was dedicated in 18 ...click for details

This coin silver mug has a double provenance. It bears a punch mark of "E&P" for Eoff and Phyfe of New York City. It is also stamped Baldwin & Co. for the Newark, NJ manufacturing jeweler. The two firms both operated from the 1840's to mid 1850's, so the date of this piece is quite precise. Curiously, while it carries three monograms and names, the first this was inscribed was on January 2nd, 1936. It reads "Paulina Faithful," with the preceding date. A ...click for details

This pair of coin silver tongs measures 6 3/4" long and weighs a moderately heavy 1.7 T. oz. The maker's stamp is "P. Howell," for Paul Howell of New York City c. 1810. He is also referenced as in a partnership with Garrett Eoff on Wall Street, NY, 1805-07. These dates all correlate well with the design of the piece, which is suggestive of coffin end. The arms are plain and lead to a broad, 7/8" wide, arch, but have an angular shift in width rather than a tapered one. ...click for details
