Watson Large Baluster Form Sterling Sugar Caster
This sugar caster or muffineer stands 6 7/8" high, has a base diameter of 2 3/8", and weighs a generous 5.1 T. oz. It was made by Watson and is stamped with that company's crown, w, lion hallmark on the underside, along with the words "Sterling Silver," the model number "M20," and the single number "8." The lid is marked "Sterling" and with the same number "8." It likely dates early 20th century. The form is traditional, of a manner that echoes a style that might be found in an English Georgian manor. The rimmed base is tiered, joined to a bulbous body. The cap is large, 3" high and 2 1/4" wide, and has a finial top that sits on a triple tier base that mirrors the foot. The piercing is a precisely rendered leaf and dot pattern. The body is plain save for a flowing script "PH" monogram. The item is in superb condition. There is no visible wear. The base sits evenly and does not rock, and there are no body dents. The lid has a sleeve fitting that remains snug. Finally, there is a hand-polished mirror finish.
