Unusual Gorham Scissor Sugar Tongs
This pair of solid sterling silver tongs measure 5 3/4" long, open to a span of 2 1/4", and weigh 1.0 T. oz. They are singular in style, formed like a pair of scissors with talon grip ends and a rosette crosspiece. Made by Gorham (with the lion, anchor, G mark) they are stamped number "4." A somewhat similar pair, numbered "1," appears in Gorham's 1888 catalog (see image 2) and this may suggest the company produced a number of this style of item in various forms. They are appealingly innovative and well-suited to collectors of the novel.
