One of the most elegant designs produced by Durgin, "Regent" (1885) holds it own within the panoply of first rank patterns generated in the Victorian era. The design employs scroll, shell, and leaf elements interspersed with latticed areas. A weighty line as well, this characteristic carries through even to place pieces such at this 5 7/8" long, nearly 1.2 T. oz. citrus (orange or grapefruit) spoon. The narrow, pointed bowl has an unusual, wide, flanged edge and decorated heel. It also has a satin matte finish and retains very slight traces of an original gold wash. There is an "AK" script monogram on the handle.
The condition is excellent. The pattern detail shows no polishing wear, and the bowl remain well-shaped and free of dents or dings. Marks are the Durgin "D" and the word "Sterling."
