Produced by a number of manufacturers, "Jenny Lind" is most associated with, and attributed to, New York's Albert Coles.
This 7 5/16" long, coin silver master butter knife in the Jenny Lind pattern was made by Coles, and bears his three part pseudo hallmark on the backside of the blade. The front side is stamped with the retailer's name, "Jas. H. Hart & Co." operating under this name 1857-62 in Brooklyn, New York. The pattern appears on the front and back sides of the handle, which is set at a right angle to the scalloped top but otherwise plain blade. There is no monogram.
The condition is very good. The piece shows light polishing wear and surface scratches on the blade, which is otherwise free of bends or nicks.
