One of Gorham's earliest and most enduring patterns, dating from 1861, "Cottage" takes its design inspiration from French antecedents. Otherwise relatively plain, it has a double lined border with scroll detailing midway up the handle and at the tip.
This example is a 5" long, quite heavy at nearly .6 T. oz., mustard ladle. It has a round, matte finish bowl that retains portions of its original gold wash. The front side of the handle has a large, Old English style "h" monogram. The backside is stamped "Sterling" and with the Gorham lion, anchor, G emblem. The condition is excellent. The form is perfect, with no bends in the handle, or scuffs or dimples in the bowl, and the finish is nicely patinated.
