English "Grape and Vine" Sterling Silver Sugar Sifter

Fully marked for Hilliard & Thomason of Birmingham, England, 1860, this sterling silver sugar sifter measures 6" long and weighs just over 1.0 T. oz.
The pattern is a true to life "Grape and Vine" motif made of assembled cast elements. The foundation of the stem is an open, twisting vine with applied hanging clusters of grapes and leaves. The 2 1/4" wide, 1 3/4" front to back, and 3/4" deep bowl has a veined and pierced interior which is finely chased in a leaf pattern. Apart from the background areas of the bowl which have a polished finish, the piece has a satin matte, gray textured surface.
It is in flawless condition, free of any signs of damage or wear.
