Marked "J.T." for the major Norwegian silver manufacturer J. Tostrup, and "830S" for its silver content (sterling is 925), this serving spoon measures a lengthy 9 5/8" and weighs 2.2 T. oz.
The design is a pleasing Art Nouveau--"Jugendstil" in European terminology--leaf and floral design offered in a restrained manner. It possesses an understated elegance that fully embodies the essence of the movement from which it draws.
The front of the handle has a Victorian period "B" monogram that is unexpectedly compatible with the overall motif. The backside of the handle is inscribed "1906" in script. This date is fully in keeping with the pattern.
It is in outstanding estate condition. Apart from one shallow dimple, the bowl is free of dents or burrs. The pattern detail remains clear and well defined, and the finish is please with only light surface scratches consistent with normal use.
