$ 75

A large example, this master butter knife measures 8" long and weighs approximately 1.6 T. oz. The pattern is "Florentine," introduced in 1870 by John Wendt. A Renaissance Revival design, Florentine consists of a dense mosaic of leaves and scrolls with a shield reserve, which in this case is absent a monogram or removal. The blade is set on the vertical to the handle, meaning the handle would lie flat on a surface, with the blade fully upright.

It is in very fine condition. Pattern detail remains well-defined and crisp. There are no bends, nicks, or burrs on the blade, although there are surface scratches consistent with age. The finish is appealing.

Marks are "Sterling," "Patent," and the name of the retailer, "H. Semken" of Washington, DC.
