A fully original item, not made up or adapted from another piece as many instances of this form are, and solid silver, this cheese scoop measures an over-sized 7 1/4" long and weighs a hefty 1.9 T. oz.
The pattern is "Stratford" by International, dating from 1902. It is a floral design, in this case carnation, offered in an Art Nouveau style. The pattern elements are expressed on the front and back sides of the handle end, the join with the bowl, and the reverse heel of the bowl.
The actual scoop is 2 1/4" long and 1 3/16" wide. It has a sculpted heel, upraised sides, and a satin finish on the interior. The walls are even and thick and have a slightly beveled edge. On adapted pieces this area is often thin from being stretched and sometimes poorly formed.
It is in mint condition and without a monogram or removal. There is no visible wear and the finish is finely patinated.
Marks are the Simpson, Hall, Miller division of International helmet over shield emblem along with the word "Sterling."
