Priced as a set. HOLD
Impressively fashioned and large scaled, each of these eight, matching pie or pastry forks measures 7" long while the group together weighs a substantial 10.8 T. oz. Lengthy and slender in look but staunch in form, they have three elongated tines with the lower one having a hooked end. Each one is monogrammed "HC" in fancy script lettering.
The pattern is Dominick & Haff's "Louis XIV." D&H produced two patterns under the name "Louis XIV," the one preceding the other by 25 years. This item is the earlier iteration, dating from 1888, and commonly referred to as "Old Style." The design is rococo, incorporating scrolls, acanthus leaves, florets, and a cluster of leaves with small berries.
The condition is superb. Pattern detail remains well-defined and free of polishing wear. The tines remain even, pointed, and without bends, burrs, or tip wear.
Marks are the D&H emblem, "Sterling," and the name of the retailer, Boston's "Bigelow, Kennard & Co."
