Something of a uncommon pattern, and a more intricate design than the name would imply, Durgin's 1886 "Scroll" has a repousse surface that features leaves, florals, and the namesake scrolls.

This example is a generously sized, 5" long, .9 T. oz. pair of sugar tongs. There is a fancy script "MAT" monogram on the arch. The gold washed talon grips are very finely rendered with detailed articulation on the inside as well as the outside surfaces.

The condition is excellent. Polishing wear is nil. There are no bends or breaks. The engraving remains crisp and the gold on the grips remains largely intact.

Marks are the old Durgin bird emblem, "Sterling," and the name of the retailer, Philadelphia's renowned "Bailey, Banks & Biddle."
