Ready citation for the "Ladd & Bigelow" mark on this 5 3/4" long, just over .5 T. oz., c. 1840 coin silver teaspoon is not available. Bigelow is a name most associated with Boston, while Ladd has numerous references in Providence, RI, Manchester, NH, and New York City. Geography therefore suggests New England, and Boston in particular. Undoubtedly the partnership was short-lived and the mark thereby uncommon.
The handle has a reverse tipt, down turned end, and an exposed drop on the bowl. The oval bowl is generously proportioned and has a pointed end. There is a feathered script "CG" inscription set sideways on the front of the handle.
The condition is very good. The monogram shows some softening from polishing. The bowl remains well-formed and free of tip wear, cracks, or dents, but does show light pebbling in the base. The mark is fully legible.
