Patented in 1904 and reflecting the Art Nouveau sensibilities of the period, Durgin's "New Vintage" does indeed express the well-exercised theme of grape in an innovative and elegant manner.
The design is put forward in high relief, detailed fashion, adding acanthus leaves and shell elements to the basic grape and leaf motif. The leaf and shell theme is carried over to the backside, including the heel of the bowl.
This example is a 7 1/4" long, weighty at 1.8 T. oz., cheese scoop. It is a fully authentic, original item, not made up from a spoon or other form. There is a script "LCA" monogram and a gold washed serving end, front and back sides.
It is in immaculate condition. There is no visible wear, the finish is immaculate, and the gold wash remains intact.
Marks are the Durgin "D" and the word "Sterling."
