Measuring 6 7/8" long and heavy at nearly 1.7 T. oz., this fork may have been a youth piece as it is engraved "Margaret Hobbs" in script on the reverse.
The pattern is Wallace's early 20th century "Irian." It is through and through an Art Nouveau design that features a full sized, high relief, nude woman with two winged cherubs hoovering about her. The lower portion of the handle portrays a number of florals including an iris and poppy, both popular themes within the Nouveau design mode.
The condition is outstanding. The figural and other pattern details remain clearly defined and without evidence of polishing wear. The tines are pointed, even, and straight. Apart from light surface scratches consistent with age, the finish is lustrous.
Marks are the Wallace deer head emblem, "Sterling," and "Pat. 1902."
