A figural design, Gorham's "Old Baronial" imagery is evocative of the English court. The dominant element is a lion's head that appears on the end of handle. Other components include fruit, scrolling, acanthus leaves, and a shell.
It is a heavy line, which is the case with this 6" long sugar spoon which weighs 1.2 T. oz. The bowl is pear-shaped, has a broad end, a cupped heel, decorated shoulders (which is a detail indicative of its age), and retains very slight traces of an original gold wash.
The condition is outstanding and the piece is without a monogram or removal. Pattern detail remains sharply defined. The finish has a hand-polished-only brilliance. The bowl is free of dents, dings, or burrs.
Marks are the Gorham lion, anchor, G, "Sterling," and "Pat. 1898."
