Standing 4 7/8" tall and resting on a 2" diameter base, this bud vase was made by Gorham whose lion, anchor, G mark is stamped on the underside. Other marks include "Sterling," the model number "1095," and the date letter "B" for 1869. It weighs 2.1 T. oz.
It follows after classic urn or amphora design. It presents a lofty and elegant appearance, having a tapering broad base that is joined to the flared lower end of the vase itself. The two arms are cast and applied and feature a central rosette with added acanthus leaf elements.
The face of one side of the body is engraved "Helen" in Old English lettering, while the opposite side reads "Nov. 13". 1870." in italicized lettering.
It is in impeccable condition. The base is flat and even, meaning the piece does not rock. There are no dents,or ripples in the metal. The finish has a natural, lustrous, patina.
