Measuring 9" across, standing 2" tall, and weighing 11.2 T. oz., this is a substantially sized bowl.

It is marked with the name and emblem for Theodore B. Starr of New York and dates c. 1900. Other marks include "Sterling" and the model number "1584." Starr had close business ties with Gorham, but whether this bowl traces to that source cannot be established with certainty.

What is certain is its quality. Art Nouveau in manner, it has a reticulated rim abundantly adorned with wild rose, or possibly dogwood, blossoms, leaves, and vines.

The wall is divided into eight convex sections, with undulating edges, leaving a bottom that appears octagonal in shape. The interior has a fancy "AEL" monogram.

It is in exceptionally fine condition. The decorative elements are flawless, free of wear, dents, or pinholes. The finish is brilliant, hand polished only, not buffed. There is some obscure unevenness or pin pricking, but no dents or bends.
