Watson is known for its fine line of Art Nouveau floral and fruits and vegetables patterns that were introduced under the Mechanics division of the company.
Teaspoons are the most common form of these desgins, making a large berry spoon a rarity. This large, 9" long, heavy, 3.1 T. oz., example in "Strawberry" is doubly unusual because it has a singular, generously proportioned, bowl that incorporates the fruit motif in the interior rather than the standard bowl Watson typically used.
At the scale of this piece, the intricacy of the pattern shows to maximum advantage. The fruit and leaves are set in high relief against a stippled background, and exhibit all the fine detail that characterize the high quality die work for which Watson is known.
The backside of the handle has a script "JD" monogram.
The condition is superb. There is no polishing or other wear. The bowl remains well-shaped and free of dents or burrs, but does have light surface scratches consistent with normal use.
Marks are the Watson Mechanics pennant emblem and the word "Sterling."
