Priced as a set.
Identified specifically for use with lettuce, as opposed to salad, this matching spoon and fork form was a reflection of the 19th century's inclination to devise specialized implements for individual foods.
This matching pair was made by Towle in its 1893 "Canterbury" pattern. The spoon measures 9" long and weighs 1.2 T. oz., while the fork is slightly shorter at 8 7/8" and lighter at 1.0 T. oz. Both items have matte finish, gold washed serving ends and are engraved in script "1865-1915" on the handle reverses. There is no monogram or removal on the fronts.
The condition is mint. A presentation set as indicated by the inscription, it appears they may have never been used.
Marks are the Towle emblem, "Sterling," "925/1000," and the name of the retailer, "A. Marks."
