Fully marked for London, 1844, and sterling, this large, 9", heavy 2.6 T. oz., table serving spoon is stamped "SH" over "DC" for the partnership of Samuel Hayne and Dudley Cater.
It is a handsome and refined item, artfully formed and finished. It has a reverse tipt handle with an exposed drop on the backside of the bowl. The plain front has cleanly beveled edges and high, sharply defined shoulders off the generously proportioned, 3 1/4" by 1 3/4", bowl.
It is in superb condition and without a monogram, inscription, or removal of same. Apart from light surface scratches consistent with age, there are no signs of wear or use. The finish is brilliant, with a natural, softly polished patina.
