Having a double Philadelphia provenance, this coin silver spoon is marked with James Watts' horse head emblem, and "George M. Bechtel" for the well-known retailer, 1850-60, and later in partnership with George Eno.
It is a substantially sized piece at 9" long and weighing just under 1.5 T. oz. Having a scalloped handle with an engraved surface, it reads as both characteristic for the period and for Philadelphia. The interesting and somewhat singularly styled bowl is melon form with central ribbing and flanged shoulders. The backside is plain save for the marks.
There is a handsome, feathered script "ANW" monogram on the front of the handle.
It is in very fine condition. The engraving remains crisp and well-defined. The bowl is well-shaped and without dents or burrs. The overall finish reflects a natural, hand polished only, brilliant surface.
