Exceptionally large for this form, this fully original, solid silver, tomato server measures 9" long and weighs 2.4 T. oz. It is substantial enough to lend itself to a variety of serving functions beyond its original purpose.
The pattern is Alvin's "Raleigh," issued in 1900. It is a fancy bead and scroll design, with an upturned handle end. The rounded blade has a slightly tapered edge and measures 3 1/2" by 3", has scalloped shoulders and an intricately cut surface.
The piece is without a monogram or removal and is in choice estate condition. There is no visible polishing wear and the finish is brilliant. Pattern detail remains sharply defined while the blade is free of bends, nicks, or burrs.
Marks are the Alvin emblem, "Sterling," and "Patent," all in fine, clear lettering.
