A grape motif dating from 1905, International's "Cloeta" reflects the abundantly expressive design sensibilities of its Art Nouveau period. It features high relief, intricately detailed grape clusters, leaves, and tendrils.
This group is a matching three piece place setting. It includes a dinner size knife that measures 9 7/8" long, a fork, commonly identified as regular size, that measures 7 1/4", and a 5 7/8" teaspoon.
This is a heavy line and that is the case with these pieces. The spoon weighs almost 1.0 T. oz. and the fork almost 1.9 T. oz. The knife is weighted and has an old, original, silverplated, blunt end blade, and weighs in total almost 2.8 T. oz.
None of these items is monogrammed or has had a removal, and all of them are in exceptionally fine condition.
Pattern detail is precise and fine, showing no polishing wear whatsoever. The fork tines are even, pointed and without bends, burrs or nicks. Similarly the spoon bowl is absent any tip wear or dents or nicks. The knife handle is without dents or splits and remains securely attached to the blade. The blade shows only minimal wear and has a good deal of usable time left in it.
Marks are the International Wilcox & Evertsen indian head emblem and "Sterling" on the fork and spoon, and "Sterling" on the knife handle.
