An early 20th century design that is basically a pointed antique, Whiting's engraved "Colonial" came in two versions, "A" and "B."
This lengthy (designed to reach the bottom of a chocolate pot), 9 1/4", and weighty, 1.5 T. oz., example is "Colonial A."
The engraving features a central, open wreath with a bow on the lower portion. The interior of this has a very fine, script "AJK" monogram.
The remainder of the surface has delicate, fleur-de-lis like detailing, with a diamond cut and wriggle work border. The backside of the handle has a central rib.
It is in choice estate condition. The engraving remains crisp and the finish is lustrous. The bowl remains perfectly shaped and is free of dents, nicks, or burrs.
Marks are Whiting's "lion" logo, "Sterling," "A," and the name of the retailer, Providence, Rhode Island's guild house, "Tilden-Thurber & Co."
