Issued in 1895, Durgin's "Empire" incorporates a variety of images that bespeak the pattern name.
The dominant feature is a crown that surmounts the tip of the handle. Below this is a wreath that frames a reserve area. A pair of cornucopias and a torch round out the major imagery. Various ribbon, bow, floral, and leaf elements adorn the interstices around the dominant features.
The ovoid bowl has decorated flange shoulders, coffered sides and a bottom with a raised design. It retains traces of an original gold wash.
Without a monogram or removal, it is in excellent condition. Pattern detail remains well-defined and the finish is bright and even. The bowl is free of dents, dings, or burrs.
