A late 18th century item, these sterling sugar nips are stamped on each finger holder with a lion and "RM" for Robert Makepeace II whose mark was entered into the London registry in 1795 (Grimwade).

Noted as a good maker in "Jackson's Hallmarks," his capacities show in this item measuring 5" long and weighing 1.3 T. oz.

They are solid silver, with cast, scroll form arms and clam shell grips.

The round crosspiece is inscribed "D" over "L*I" in block lettering.

They are in outstanding condition, showing no evident wear apart softening of the monogram from polishing, or damage, and having a fine patina. The scissor mechanism works perfectly and the two halves remains well aligned.
