Wallace produced several Art Nouveau floral patterns in the early 20th century, of which "Peony" stands in a category by itself. It is exceptionally heavy, has three dimensional intaglio (meaning cut in) and upraised surfaces, embodies a liquid look, and is highly expressive.

This example is an 8 1/4" long, and consistent with the line, weighty at nearly 2.8 T. oz., medium sized cold meat fork. The serving end has four straight tines.

The handle is inscribed with a feathered script "M" monogram.

The condition is excellent estate. Pattern detail remains clearly defined, retaining all the original intricacy of the design. The tines are straight, pointed, and free of burrs or nicks. The finish is lustrous. Apart from only light surface scratches consistent with use, the piece appears unused.

Marks are the Wallace deer head with "RW&S" emblem, and in fine lettering, "Sterling," and "Pat'd. Appl'd. For.," this phrase indicating it is first run production for this line introduced in 1906.
