Dating from around the turn of the 20th century, this item measures 6" across and weighs 3.1 T. oz. Flat bottomed, it has an upraised, 1" wide, bowed and scalloped edge rim that is embossed with a repeating acanthus leaf and gadroon motif.

This is high fashion and complimented by a fancy leaf style lettered "EGD" monogram.

It could be a plate or equally serve as a wine coaster, of a size that could accommodate either a 750 ml or 1.5 liter bottle.

It is stamped on the underside for prominent Leipzig, Germany, jeweler, "C.E. Keyser" and an "800, crescent, crown" emblem indicating an 80% silver content, the order number "37297," and a pedestal form emblem for the maker, "Koch & Bergfeld," Bremen. The firm initiated use of this mark in 1884.

It is an estate item in very fine condition. Free of dents, bends, or dimples, and having a bright finish, the only signs of wear are light surface scratches consistent with normal use.
