Far larger than most tea balls, this spherical piece measures 2" in diameter and weighs nearly 1.5 T. oz.

Dating from the last quarter of the 19th century, it was made by Wood & Hughes, whose "WwH" emblem, the word "Sterling," and the model number "41" is imprinted on the inside lip of the lower half.

The design is exceptional, deriving from the intricate reticulation on both the top and bottom halves of the ball.

In addition to apostrophe like cuts, there is a 1/2" wide band on each half where they meet; this is finely inscribed in an "Arabesque" pattern.

There is a snap clasp and a 5" long chain with a ring at the end.

The item is in very fine condition. It is free of dents or breaks in the reticulation. The closure is snug and the hinge is secure, albeit with slight play, and retains its original pin. The exterior finish is bright and even, while the interior has a brushed surface.
