$165.00

This substantial-sized, 9 1/2" long, just under 2.6 T. oz., piece bespeaks its 19th century Philadelphia origins.

It is stamped "Sterling" and "Robbins, Clark & Biddle" on the reverse. According to Catherine Hollan in "Philadelphia Silversmiths," this firm was operating by 1876, which is the approximate date of this piece. Samuel Biddle left the company in 1878 to form Bailey, Banks & Biddle.

An ice cream server, it has a large, concave, blade. There are two round bottom vees with curved shoulders that have bright, plain finishes. The rest of the serving end has a matte finish with intricate, precise, diamond cut engraving, at which Philadelphia silversmiths of the period were especially able.

The down-turned, reverse tipt handle also has a matte finish, as does the entire reverse of the piece. The front side is bright cut in a design that is complimentary to the blade.

There is a reserve area, which has never been monogrammed.

It is in mint estate condition, essentially without wear, and absent any bends, dents, or nicks.
