$46.00 Price for the pair.

Substantially sized at 4 7/8" long each, and weighty at 1.2 T. oz. the pair, these matching picks were made by Frank Smith and retailed by Boston's "Bigelow, Kennard & Co.," as identified on the reverses along with the words "Sterling" and "Patented."

The pattern is "Newport Shell," dating from 1910. In addition to the shell end which lends the pattern its name, the design incorporates a beaded border on the front, and a lined border on the back, of the handle.

This form, nut picks, also used for lobster, are not readily found pieces in most patterns, and that is particularly so in "Newport Shell."

They are without monograms or removals and in excellent estate condition. Showing no polishing wear, the design detail remains sharply defined. One of the picks has some burring at the tip, otherwise they remain well-formed and are without bends or other signs of use. The finishes are even and have a soft patina.
