Frederick Marquand is one of the storied names among New York City silversmiths. Furthermore, he established the lineage which eventually evolved into "Ball, Black & Co." and subsequently "Black, Starr & Frost."

He is also associated with Savannah, Georgia where he spent some of his early working years.

This 6 9/16" long, heavy, 1.5 T. oz., probably youth fork is stamped "Marquand & Co." which dates it 1830-33.

It is a "Kings" pattern with a plain back. The front is inscribed "Rockwell" in cursive.

The condition is very good. There is slight softening of detail from polishing and also slight rounding of the tines from use. The finish is pleasing and the maker's mark is clear.
