Charming items, and generally one of the harder to find (or not even available) serving pieces in most patterns, jelly cake servers are characterized by their long, narrow, trowel-like, blades.

This 8 5/8" long, approximately 1.6 T. oz., solid silver, example by Alvin is true to form, with a handsomely cut and engraved, slightly cupped, 4" long by 1 5/16" at the widest, pointed serving end.

The pattern is the company's turn of the 20th century "Cippendale Old."

Like the blade, the handle is reticulated and resembles the shield back of a Chippendale chair. It possesses the elegant, quiet formality of that period design, but is slightly embellished with scroll and bellflower-like elements.

Never monogrammed, this is in choice condition, showing no wear and having a warm, even, finish. The blade is free of bends, nicks, burrs, or cracks.

Marks are "Sterling," the Alvin company emblem, and "Patent."
