Theodore Roosevelt's place in history is secured by many deeds, exploits, and his role as the 26th President of the United States, but one of the most enduring and charmingly whimsical associations was that he served as progenitor of the teddy bear.

Given that his years in office coincided with the peak popularity 0f souvenir spoon collecting, it is no happenstance that Roosevelt and the teddy bear found expression in this form.

This example is a 5 3/8" long, just over .6 T. oz., example that features a seated bear at the top of the handle, a banner below this that reads "teddy," and a shield with stars and stripes on it.

The bear portraiture is well-defined and presents in a fetching manner.

There is no inscription and the satin matte finish bowl is plain. The backside of the handle is plain has a lined border that traces the shape of the design on the front, but no other detail.

The condition is excellent. There is no evident polishing wear, while the bowl remains well-shaped, free of tip wear, and without dents or dings. The overall finish is even.

Marks are "Sterling," "Patd. July 9:07," and the symbol of the maker, "J in a shield, crown, G in a shield."
