Large at 7 7/8" long and weighty at 1.4 T. oz., this master butter knife is solid sterling silver.

The pattern is Gorham's "Fleury," which is a floral design very reminiscent of that company's "Buttercup," although the flowers in this instance appear to be wild rose, and in that regard, there is a close parallel with Watson's "Meadow Rose."

All these patterns date from the first decade of the 20th century and show the expressiveness of the Art Nouveau style that was popular in the period.

This has a lightly inscribed, flowing "D A G" monogram set sideways on the handle.

The blade has a scalloped and beveled upper edge, upswept tip, and sculpted shoulders where it joins the handle.

The piece is in superb estate condition. Pattern detail remains well-defined, free of polishing wear. The blade is without bends, nicks, or burrs. The overall finish is even and bright.

Marks are Gorham's "lion, anchor, G" emblem, "Sterling," "Pat. 1907," and the name of the retailer, "Barr & Willis."
