Made by and marked for San Francisco's Koehler & Ritter, this coin silver serving spoon measures a lengthy 9" overall and has a generously proportioned, 3 3/4" by 2 1/2", plum-shaped bowl. It weighs approximately 2.3 T. oz.

The pattern is "Alameda" aka "Ivy." It strongly resembles Gorham's "Corinthian" of the same c. 1870 date, but with the addition of a spray of raised ivy leaves and berries set against a stippled ground.

The bowl has a central rib and a fluted or pie crust border. The interior has a matte surface with a pale gold finish, while the backside is bright and without gold.

There is a finely engraved, Old English, "M" monogram set sideways on the handle.

The condition is choice estate. Pattern details remain crisp, showing no polishing wear. The bowl is flawless, without any dimples, nicks, or burrs.
