Whiting made at least two forms of sugar spoons in its 1880 "Berry" pattern, perhaps the more common one a shell bowl, and this 6 1/8" long, .9 T. oz., example with a scalloped edge, round bowl.

A multi-motif design, "Berry" portrays a variety of fruit, leaves, and branches, relative to the individual piece, the portraiture on this being blueberry.

In excellent condition, it has never been monogrammed (which would have appeared on the plain backside of the handle). Pattern detail remains well-defined and the bowl is free of dents, bends, or nicks, and also retains most of an original gold wash front and back sides.

It is marked "Sterling," "19," and with the name of the retailer, New York's "Black, Starr & Frost."
