A large piece measuring 7 1/2" long with a 3" by 2 1/2" by 3/4" deep bowl, and weighing a robust 3.2 T. oz., this gravy ladle is an early production example of Durgin's 1897 "Dauphin" pattern, marked with the company "D" emblem and "Sterling" on the handle reverse.

Never monogrammed, it remains in excellent estate condition.

The high relief floral and crossed ribbon detail is clear and well-defined.

The bowl is embellished with the pattern elements cascading from the shoulders onto the sidewall back. The bowl also retains most of its original deep, bronze-colored, gold wash, front and back sides.

The patina is appealing, exhibiting a hand polished only finish that is bright and even.
