An impressive serving piece that measures 8 3/8" long and weighs nearly 2.7 T. oz., this item has a double provenance that traces to the late 19th century.

First, the pattern is "Luxembourg" made by Gorham and introduced in 1893. This particular example is a pea spoon with a large, round, 3" diameter, reticulated, shallow bowl with a gold finish on both sides.

Secondly, the handle front is engraved "Whist Club" and the backside reads "1897." While this could reference numerous organizations, this traces to the Boston area and without much question relates to the Harvard University Whist Club.

It is in very fine condition, with no damage and scant evidence of use. The server is without bends, nicks, or burrs, and the pattern detail remains clear and free of polishing wear. The finish is warm and even.

Marks are Gorham's "lion, anchor, G" emblem and "Sterling."
