$48.00

Dating circa 1865, this 7 1/2" long, weighty at 1.5 T. oz., master butter knife is stamped "*F. & H.*" on the blade for Boston's Farrington & Hunnewell, and "Pure Coin," which is a New England term, on the underside of the handle.

It is twisted, with the handle and blade set at right angles to one another.

The slightly upturned, thick handle has a pedimented end and is extensively diamond bright cut on the front in a pattern that is characteristic of Boston in the period.

The scalloped edge blade is engraved on one side in a leaf and small berry design with a wriggle work border.

Never monogrammed or inscribed, this is in outstanding condition. The engraving on the handle shows very slight softening from polishing, and otherwise there are no evident signs of use. The blade is free of bends or nicks, and the finish is warm and even.
