Cincinnati's prominent 19th century silver manufacturer and jeweler, Duhme & Co., produced numerous designs that were clearly derivative, or even imitative, of other companies' work, but its early "No. 2" pattern was decidedly of its own devising.

It has sculpted margins decorated in scroll, leaf, flower, beading and lattice detail. The pattern at one and the same time appears Victorian and Elizabethan in nature.

This example is a 6 5/8" long, heavy at approximately 1.4 T. oz., tea or dessert fork.

It is engraved "Helen" in script on the handle front and "1899" on the backside, and remains in excellent condition.

It is free of polishing wear, and has straight, even, and pointed tines. The finish is lustrous and even.

Marks are "Duhme & Co," and "Sterling."
