$165.00

Lengthy at 9 3/8", and weighty at 2.5 T. oz., this solid coin silver cheese scoop dates from the mid 19th century.

It is marked "Bailey & Co.," for the prominent Philadelphia firm that operated under this name 1848-78 (Rainwater, Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufacturers) and which eventually became "Bailey, Banks & Biddle."

It is a "French Thread" aka "Fiddle Thread" pattern, with the design on both sides of the arched handle.

Engraved "MLTCH"(?) in feathered script lettering on the front, it carries the added endearing inscription, "From their Children 1853" on the reverse.

It is in superb estate condition, without any polishing wear and free of bends, nicks, or undue wear. The engraving remains crisp and the finish shows a pleasing patina.
