HOLD

A late 19th century line, Whiting's "Berry" incorporated a variety of fruits assigned to different pieces.

This example is a 7 1/2" long, nearly 2.2 T. oz., gravy ladle that features a blackberry motif. This includes the fruit, leaves, stems, and blossoms of the plant arrayed on the full length of the handle front.

The handle backside is plain save for an embellished Old English "D" monogram and the marks, which include Whiting's "lion" emblem, "Sterling," "9," and the name of the retailer, Boston's "A. Stowell & Co."

The deep, just off round, bowl has a slightly splayed, scalloped edge, and is finished in a pale gold wash on the interior.

In very good condition, pattern detail remains well-defined and free of polishing wear. The bowl is without dents or bends, although it has light surface scratches and some loss of the gold finish. The piece overall shows a soft patina.
