Issued in 1875, Wendt's "Ribbon" incorporates a dense, repetitive design that seems to draw upon the Renaissance and Moorish Revival sensibilities of the period.

This example is a 7" long, 1.2 T. oz., preserve spoon.

It has an oblong bowl with a raised heel and groove in the interior, which is engraved with wriggle work and a leaf motif.

The rim has a flanged edge, and both the inner and backside surfaces retain a portion of an original gold wash.

Never monogrammed, it remains in excellent condition, is free of polishing wear or damage, and has a warm finish. The bowl is free of dents, bends, or nicks.

Marks are "Sterling," "Patent," and "Starr & Marcus," for the short-lived, 1860s to 1870s, New York City partnership.
