Marked "H.W" for manufacturer "Lee & Wigfull" aka "Henry Wigfull," and with a "crown" for Sheffield, England, a date letter for "1896-97," and a lion for "sterling," this is an unusual item.

A meat or game fork, it is stout, measuring 5 1/2" long, 3 1/4" at the widest, and weighs a sturdy 2.8 T. oz.

It has three flat and broad, solid silver tines joined to a short, turned, baluster form handle.

There is a thick, natural (ivory or bone) or synthetic material, crossbar grip that has silver collars and engraved, spherical ends. Lastly there is a knurled knob cap that secures the shank to the handle.

In spite of the formidable and utilitarian sturdiness of this, it appears to have been little used as there is no evidence of wear. The silver remains bright, and the piece overall is absent dents, cracks, scratches, or discoloration.

In true English fashion, it is marked is multiple places, including the tine area, each of the balls on the handle, and even on the knob cap, verifying that all silver components are sterling.
