HOLD

Reflecting Aesthetic sensibilities, themselves drawn from Asian design, Wendt's "Bird" is a multi-motif pattern that features a variety of avian creatures, usually in flight or alight on a branch.

This full size, 12 1/2" long, heavy at 6.6 T. oz., soup ladle is unusual in its portraiture in that, rather than representing a delicate specimen such as a nightingale or swallow as is typical of most of the line, it portrays a bold, standing rooster or cockerel, with raised tail features and a forward thrust chest.

As is characteristic of the series, the handle background is stippled and includes bamboo stems and flowers, as well as a raised bamboo stem running the length of the shank to the bowl.

The backside is engraved with an Old English "P" monogram.

The nearly round at 3 1/2" diameter and 1 1/4" deep, bowl is capacious, capable of holding over 1/2 cup of liquid. It has a matte finish interior and a bright finish exterior.

In very good condition, this retains excellent pattern detail, showing only a faint bit of polishing softening on the high points of the rooster's chest, and otherwise no signs of wear. The bowl is without dents, bents, nicks, or burrs, although there are overall light surface scratches inside and out.

Marks are "Sterling" and "Patent."
